Canvas Studio

Canvas Studio drop-in sessions are most beneficial for instructors who would like specific help building content for their Canvas course(s).  You are welcome to attend all day or you can come and go as needed to set up the tools you wish to use in the Canvas environment.  Please bring your laptop and content that you would like help with.

Canvas Studio Sessions will be held every Wednesday during the Winter 1 term.
All sessions will be held in SCI 253 from 9 am to 3 pm

Studio Topics

Using Modules
This session walks you through the more advanced features and tools that come with Canvas Modules. Topics covered in this session include:

  • how to add, edit and reorder a variety of content to modules
  • how to use the Rich Content Editor features
  • to manage pages in the Course menu Pages link
  • how to manage files in the Course menu Files link
  • how to edit, organize and redesign your course to ensure your content presents well for students
  • how to set up and create your course homepage (making a good first impression)
Assignments
This session walks you through the more advanced features of Canvas Assignments. Topics covered in this session include:

  • how to give Assignments to groups or individuals
  • how to set up Assignments (Differentiated Assignments) for more than one due date and availability dates
  • how to create a rubric for an Assignment
  • how to grade online submitted Assignment documents using SpeedGrader
  • how to add comments and markup to an online submitted Assignment document
Gradebook
This session introduces you to using the Canvas Grades tools to manage the gradebook for your class . Topics covered in this session include:

  • how to add columns to the Gradebook
  • how to arrange and sort columns and students
  • how to view column information
  • how to grade assignments
  • how to view Grading History
  • how to export, import and mute/hide grades
Moving your Connect content into your Canvas course Studio
Topics covered in this session include:

  • a review of existing Blackboard Connect course content to identify desirable content
  • how to prepare and export content (all content or specific content only)
  • how to import content into your Canvas course (all content or specific content only)
  • an overview of where your newly imported content lives in Canvas
  • how to edit, organize and redesign your course to ensure your content presents well for students
  • how to set up and create your course homepage (making a good first impression)
Online Quizzes
Topics covered in this session include:

  • how to export quizzes from Connect and import them into Canvas
  • how to Manage Question Banks
  • how to Create quizzes
  • overview of Quiz Details (settings)
  • how to use Question Sets
  • how to accommodate special needs (ie: student requires extra time on timed quiz)
  • how to view results
Integrating Tools and Technology into Canvas (still under development)
This module is about how to integrate common tools into Canvas, including:

  • iClicker
  • Library Online Course Reserves (LOCR)
  • CLAS
