A need for change:
Significant changes in society and technology over the past several decades call for changes in the way we teach.
- Knowledge is rapidly changing. We need to adapt teaching to current educational needs and goals which are more focused on collaboration to solve problems, and developing life-long learning skills.
- Industry is changing rapidly and as a result need more employees with post-secondary education. We need to adapt our educational offerings to accommodate new students as well as mature students who are upgrading their education.
- The understanding of how people think and learn has dramatically improved. We need to apply these principles to the design learning opportunities for all students.
- Educational technology has matured. While we now have the tools for improving instructional delivery, we need to improve the ways that we use them in instructional settings.
