Did you have a chance to check out the updated UDL Guidelines (version 3)? The UDL Guidelines are a tool used in the implementation of Universal Design for Learning, a framework to proactively enhance access and participation to meaningful learning for as many people as possible.
Guideline 7, which was previously “Provide options for recruiting interest”, has become:
- “Design Options for Welcoming Interests & Identities” (under Designing Multiple Means of Engagement)
According to CAST, this guideline was updated to more fully honour and sustain learners’ varied, intersecting identities and the many strengths and assets they bring to the learning environment.
What are some ways you are “designing for identity”? We would love to hear from you!
If you would like to explore this guideline further, register for CAST’s webinar “Enhancing Learner Engagement with UDL Guidelines 3.0: Designing for Identity” on Thursday, October 17th, 12:00 to 1:00 PM PT. Then email our Educational Consultant for Inclusion, Electra Eleftheriadou (electra.eleftheriadou@ubc.ca) to debrief together! ☺️
