The Organizing Committee and the Centre for Teaching and Learning are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and productive environment so you can fully engage in learning with your peers and colleagues.
The University of British Columbia’s commitment to a respectful environment states,
Excellence in learning, research and work in the university community is fostered by promoting the freest possible exchange of information, ideas, beliefs and opinions in diverse forms, and it necessarily includes dissemination and discussion of controversial topics and unpopular points of view. - abuse of power, authority, or position
- sabotage of a person’s work
- humiliating initiation practices, hazing
- calling someone derogatory names
- spreading of malicious rumours or lies
- making malicious or vexatious complaints about a person
- discrimination (unjustified differential treatment of a person or group of people) based age, ancestry, colour race, citizenship, ethnic origin, creed, disability, family status, marital status, gender identity, gender expression, receipt of public assistance, record of offences, sex and sexual orientation
- any form of sexual violence inclusive of sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, indecent exposure, voyeurism or distribution of sexually explicit photographs
