Teaching with Canvas

Canvas is an online course delivery and Learning Management System (LMS) you can use to distribute content, arrange online activities, and track student performance.

Canvas can be blended with your in-person classroom activities, or you can deliver your course fully online. Below are some resources to get you familiarized with the tool.

Communication

Communicating with students can improve engagement, ease anxiety and improve learning. There are multiple channels and purposes for communicating to the whole class, to groups and to individual students. Some examples are the course contents, announcements, messages, web conferencing, discussions, office hours, and assessment feedback.

Gradebook 

The Gradebook stores all information about student progress in the course, measuring both letter grades and course outcomes.

Assignments and Quizzes

You have several options for creating and delivering exams using Canvas’ Assignments and Quizzes features. Both features can be set to become available within a specific timeframe and/or assigned a due date.
