Teaching Fellows
The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) invites applications for the 2026-27 Teaching Fellows Program. Applications are due June 30, 2026 via email to CTL: ctl.ubco@ubc.ca
UBC Okanagan’s Teaching Fellows program recognizes and supports faculty members across campus who contribute significantly to the teaching and learning mission on campus. The Fellows work with colleagues and CTL staff to contribute to UBC’s core strategy of transformative learning and CTL’s mission to promote, inspire, and support teaching excellence.
Fellows apply based on records of excellence in teaching and proposals to extend their impact beyond their own classrooms to the campus community. Teaching Fellow Awards are for one year, and recipients receive dedicated support from CTL staff for the projects and plans that they propose through their applications. An individual may receive the Teaching Fellow Award for up to three consecutive years.
Any faculty member with a continuing tenured or tenure-track appointment or lecturer holding a full-time limited-term appointment who will be teaching at UBC Okanagan during the award year is eligible to apply.
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching
- Service to the UBC Okanagan teaching community
- Alignment of the proposed project with UBC, UBC Okanagan, and CTL priorities
- Feasibility of the proposed project
The application deadline is June 30.
The applicant submits the following documents to CTL via email: ctl.ubco@ubc.ca
Applications must include:
- A letter (max. 2 pages) addressing selection criteria and proposed activities.
- The letter should include examples of how you would engage with CTL (e.g., facilitate a Community of Practice or Instructional Skills Workshop, support the TA Training Program, participate in Back to Teaching Readiness, etc.) and describe a one-year project you would like to lead with support from CTL.
- A CV (UBC format)
- A letter of support from a Department Head, Director, or Associate Dean
Teaching Fellows are expected to pursue their individual and collaborative projects with support from CTL staff, advise CTL leadership on priorities and plans through engagement with the CTL Academic Director, and share back to their home Schools and Faculties.
Applications are reviewed by a committee chaired by the CTL Academic Director, guided by the evaluation criteria and with emphasis on learning community impact, and engagement and contribution to CTL activities. The awards are distributed with the goal of representation from each Faculty and the selection of a diverse cohort of Teaching Fellows who champion UBC Okanagan priorities and exemplify our campus values.
