Design Considerations
Three “domains” are generally used when designing learning. Bloom’s taxonomy measures knowledge, Krathwohl’s Affective domain helps with feeling and Dave’s Psycho Motor domain is about skills. Technology can be applied to each of these domains and is further illustrated in the tabs below:
The following is a partial list of learning technologies that can be applied to the different levels of Bloom’s taxonomy, shown below. It is not meant to be exhaustive.

The affective domain, shown on the right, is about changing the way learners view things and aims to change emotions and feelings. Several learning technologies can be applied such as:
- H5P Scenarios
- Kaltura Video (interviews, role plays)
- Zoom (Guest Speaker)
- Canvas Discussion

Manipulation |
Precision |
Articulation |
Naturalization |
As the psycho motor domain, shown on the left, is about demonstration of skills, learning technology that is video based can be applied to learning activities. It should be acknowledged that there are other skills that are not physical in nature – such as writing – and in that case different learning technologies such as canvas assignments are more appropriate. Note – canvas assignments can bet set up to accept media files.
Video based learning technology includes Kaltura, CLAS, Discussion (with Video) and Assignments (with media file upload):
The medicine wheel is one model of Indigenous Ways of Knowing. It includes the three domains listed above and also includes the spiritual domain. Technology could be applied to the different levels of the spiritual domain as follows:
Mindful |

Connected |
Empowered |
Self Actualized |
Journal (using OneDrive) | Group Assignments | Discussion | Virtual Whiteboard | UBC Blogs |
UBC Blogs | Zoom (guest speaker) | Mattermost | Audio / Video | Audio / Video |
