Create a Visual and Interactive Syllabus
One of the pillars of Universal Design for Learning is multiple means of action and expression, which includes offering multiple media for communication. Dr. Summer Li, UBCO Chemistry, applied this principle to her course syllabus using H5P to create a visual, interactive syllabus and embed it in Canvas. Steps
1. Go to Canva.com
2. Sign up for free if you do not have an account. Otherwise, log in.
3. Access provided template. Make copy and rename (File / Make a copy).
4. Make changes appropriate to your class and syllabus – title, icon look, colors for
example (click on elements in Canva to change or make your own).
5. Download as PNG or JPEG. Save.
Steps
1.Go to h5p.open.ubc.ca.
2. Log in with your CWL.
3. Go to H5P / Add new.
4. Choose “Image Hotspot”.
5. Give it a title.
6. Upload background image (your Canva image from step one).
7. To create hotspot, point to the areas where you want a hotspot.
8. Enter informative text as appropriate.
9. Ensure “Display Embed Code” is checked.
10. Create.
11. Copy Embed Code.

Steps
- Go to Canvas / Pages / Create a New Page.
- Click on <> on lower right.
- Paste embed code.
- Save.
