Alternative Assessments Table
Canvas quizzes are a popular assessment tool at many universities, including UBC. Quizzes are often paired with lockdown browser which restricts the learner’s actions while completing the assessment. Lockdown browser is often used as a way to ensure academic integrity. Lockdown browser increases the stress level of students (Ruzgar & Chua-Chow, 2023) which may lead to lower scores for students (OECD, 2015). Canvas quizzes with lockdown browser may be a suitable strategy for some courses. The purpose of this searchable table is to consider alternative types of assessment that assess learning but don’t need lockdown browser to ensure academic integrity. These alternative assessments can be used in a variety of disciplines – we are always available to help adapt for your specific area.
The searchable table below contains information directly from A Guide to Alternative Assessments (Elkhoury, 2020) which holds a CC BY NC license.
