Foundations of Teaching and Learning
This micro credential explores foundational learning theories and effective teaching strategies. This course requires that you critically reflect on your educational experiences and practices and will use those reflections in crafting a teaching philosophy statement.
Overview of PROGRAM and Outcomes
- Compare and contrast the principles of behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism, with a focus on constructivism. They will critically analyze constructivist learning theory and develop 2-3 practical learning strategies that promote active, student-centered learning, providing real-world examples of how these strategies can be applied in educational settings.
- Reflect on how to integrate the developed learning strategies into their future teaching practices, considering potential benefits and challenges.
- Identify, describe, and analyze factors that contribute to a positive and productive learning environment, drawing from personal experience and supporting evidence.
- Develop a foundational draft of their teaching philosophy that integrates their understanding of learning and outlines strategies for fostering an effective learning environment.
