Classroom Practices

A need for change:

Significant changes in society and technology over the past several decades call for changes in the way we teach.

  1. Knowledge is rapidly changing. We need to adapt teaching to current educational needs and goals which are more focused on collaboration to solve problems, and developing life-long learning skills.
  2. Industry is changing rapidly and as a result need more employees with post-secondary education. We need to adapt our educational offerings to accommodate new students as well as mature students who are upgrading their education.
  3. The understanding of how people think and learn has dramatically improved.  We need to apply these principles to the design learning opportunities for all students.
  4. Educational technology has matured. While we now have the tools for improving instructional delivery, we need to improve the ways that we use them in instructional settings.
