Large Classroom

Jose Sapien Fernandez has been teaching biology to large class sizes in EME 005 since 2023. He has taught in smaller rooms as well and he finds EME 005 easier to use. Despite the large size of the room, Jose is not tied to the podium. After starting off in the front of the room, Jose switches the input of his device to Air Media and walks throughout the room, projecting striking visuals to the big screens in the front.  Jose notes that the combination of a big screen and easy to control lighting makes displaying visuals easy and effective. 

Group work in EME 005 is a challenge with over 200 people often in attendance but it is possible with a well-chosen activity and the assistance of TAs to keep things on track. 

His advice to others who have been assigned this room is to not be afraid of its large size and perceived complexity. EME 005 is easy to use and has significant qualities such as easy to control light and large screens that allow detailed images to be seen clearly. Group work is sometimes a challenge but still possible.
