Jessica Bayer
Educational Consultant, Indigenous Initiatives
My key areas of expertise: My focus is walking with others on our personal and professional journeys of decolonizing and Indigenizing our life and work.
My role within the team: Providing consultation, process design, facilitation, programming, and resource development services to the UBCO teaching and learning community focused on Indigenous engagement and educational initiatives.
My background: Before my role at UBC Okanagan I worked in education with a focus on accessibility and student wellness. Through my master’s work I strengthened my passion for equity in education with an emphasis on decolonization and Indigenous teaching and learning frameworks. Then, it transitioned into the focus of Indigenization and decolonization in higher education. Before this role, I had the privilege of working at Okanagan College supporting staff and faculty with campus-wide wellbeing initiatives and working closely with Indigenous students and community members.
When I’m not working… reading, binge watching, listening to podcasts, by the lake, road-tripping, and drinking coffee.
