Register for the Indigenous Reads Book Club this Fall!

📅 Date: October 22
🕒 Time: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
📍 Location: LIB 111
Facilitators: Naim Cardinal, Nishat Tasnim, Sajni Lacey, and Jessica Bayer

As the weather gets colder, we are eager to pour a hot drink and get quiet with a new book. We hope you’ll join us as we read and reflect on Beyond the Rink by Alexandra Giancarlo, Janice Forsyth, and Braden Te Hiwi. This non-fiction story follows the Sioux Lookout Black Hawks hockey team from Pelican Lake Indian Residential School—teammates, champions, and survivors—who, in 1951, after winning the Thunder Bay district championship, embarked on a whirlwind promotional tour through Ottawa and Toronto. Learn more about the book.

Join us for our first meeting on October 22nd in the Library, room LIB 111, for yummy snacks and coffee. Meetings will occur every other week – same place, same time! Please note that registrants are asked to secure their own copy of the book, which is available through the UBC Library! If you cannot make the first planned in-person meeting, no worries, see you next time! If you have further questions or inquiries, please email Jessica at Jessica.Bayer@ubc.ca.
