Accessibility Tip – November 2024

We continue our journey in exploring the updated UDL Guidelines (version 3). The UDL Guidelines are a tool used in the implementation of Universal Design for Learning, a framework to proactively enhance access and participation to meaningful learning for as many people as possible.

This month we are focusing on some of the themes emphasized under the Principle “Design Multiple Means of Representation”:

  • Authentically representing a diversity of identities, perspectives, and narratives (refer to Guideline 1.3)
  • Considering perceptions of people, cultures, and languages (relates to Guideline 2.3 among others)
  • Valuing multiple ways of knowing and making meaning (refer to Guideline 3.3)

How do these themes relate to other pedagogical frameworks or philosophies you are embracing? How do you practice them? We would love to hear from you!

If you would like to explore further the updates under the Principle of Representation, register for CAST’s webinar “Universal Design for Learning 3.0: Essential Updates and Practical Applications – Changes to Representation” on Monday, November 4th , 12:00 to 1:00 PM PT.  Then email our Educational Consultant for Inclusion, Electra Eleftheriadou (electra.eleftheriadou@ubc.ca) to debrief together! 🙂
