Message from the Associate Provost, Teaching and Learning

Welcome to the start of another academic year. In academia, I always feel like September, rather than January, is truly the start of our new year. It is a time of new beginnings, where campus is full of excitement, possibilities and connection.

With the Academic Priorities now defined, it is a great time for us to use this vision to plan for our future, both collectively within our Faculties and Schools and as individual instructors by informing our educational planning and practices. Within these priorities, I see incredible opportunities for teaching and learning innovation. We have already made significant strides in experiential education and flexible learning in recent years, and I see these areas continuing to grow and engage students at all stages of their learning journeys.

But no change happens overnight or in isolation. Whether you are new to teaching or a seasoned instructor looking for new ways to innovate and transform your teaching, I encourage you to fully embrace your teaching and learning community and remember that the CTL is here to support you. In the face of the endless possibilities of the new academic year, I wish you all success, support and meaningful opportunities for connection and collaboration—these are what make our campus truly unique!
