Message from the Academic Director, Centre for Teaching & Learning
What a term it’s been! In connecting with students and instructors over the past couple of weeks, I have a clear sense that the fall term has been incredibly dynamic: the time has passed even more quickly than usual, teaching and learning practices have shifted rapidly in response to a variety of factors, including genAI, and the start of the January session seems simultaneously distant and immediate… As always, the CTL team is ready to provide both just-in-time and longer-term support for your instructional needs and to be with you on your teaching journeys. In this abbreviated newsletter, we highlight some specific programming and opportunities:
Final exams: Respondus LockDown Browser
We have heard concerns from instructors planning to use Respondus LockDown Browser for their final exams, and we have developed some recommendations for increasing security. The recommendations are posted on our web site: Computer Exam Recommendations
Back to Teaching Readiness
In support of your January preparations, we are offering two just-in-time sessions on December 17. Canvas Confidence is focused on foundations for using Canvas in your courses. This session is ideal for new instructors or those who are looking for a refresher on Canvas basics. Classroom Delivery Modes is focused on best practices for hybrid, online, and multi-access delivery modes. This session is ideal for instructors looking for support with course delivery beyond in-person instruction.
Communities of Practice
Community and connection remain core values for CTL, and we are happy to support these in a number of ways, including through communities of practice. If you’re interested in joining, please reach out to the facilitator/coordinator listed on the web page.
Finally, we will be closed from December 25th through January 1st for the holiday break and will reopen with regular hours on Friday, January 2nd. We wish you a restful holiday season!
