Disability and Access in the Classroom: Tests and Exams

You see it every day.

The capable student who freezes during exams.
The student who is bright but overwhelmed.
The student who wants to succeed—but just can’t keep up.

As an instructor, you’re doing everything you can – but you want to do more to assess student learning for all students in your class. But, not all students who need help are obvious.
Many are engaged, attend class, and appear capable—until exams or major assignments reveal gaps.

If you want to recognize, respond, and support—without singling out or lowering standards – the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Disability Resource Centre (DRC) are pleased to provide a collaborative series: Disability and Access in the Classroom. This initiative will guide you through reflective steps to revise your courses and enhance access for all students, with a particular focus on disabled learners; our first post explores tests and exams.

Hop over to the DRC Faculty Resource Guide (must be enrolled) to read a thorough discussion of this reflection.
