Accessibility Tip – May 2024

At the CTL, we are on a journey in making our communications more accessible. We are pulling back the curtain and invite you to join us as we review and implement new practices that enhance accessibility. This month, we are focusing on images.

Use descriptive alternative text (alt text) to convey the content and purpose of functional visuals, such as graphs, diagrams, charts or other graphics that convey non-text information

Please note that decorative images that do not convey information should not have alternative text descriptions.

Bonus tip (in light of your upcoming Celebrating Learning Week presentations and Thompson-Okanagan Teaching and Learning Conference 🙂): do not use colour as the only visual means of conveying information.

Learn more about accessible, image-based content under Best Practice 2 of the OER Accessibility Toolkit and let us know how this practice is working for you.
