TPS Touchpoint: Peer Learning and Exceptional Education

With our campus buzzing with activity, this month’s highlighted results from the Teaching Practices Survey (TPS) focus on peer learning and experiential education.

  • 56% of respondents require students to work in groups with an additional 21% making it optional.
  • 49% of respondents require students to participate in experiential-based learning with an additional 11% making it optional.
  • 17% of respondents require students to participate in community-engaged learning with an additional 15% making it optional.
  • 13% of respondents require students to participate in fieldwork or fieldtrips with an additional 4% making it optional.

On our campus, work is underway to implement an Experiential Education (EE) strategy that emphasizes three priority areas of increasing awareness and pathways to participation in EE opportunities for students, building capacity to expand EE opportunities across teaching and learning, and supporting community engagement in EE initiatives and programs.  Additional information on this strategy and the key deliverables is available on the Experiential Education webpage of UBC Okanagan’s Office of the Provost and Vice President Academic.
