Availability of Respondus Lockdown Browser for Digital Assessment

Accessing computers with Respondus Lockdown Browser (RLB):

Instructors should consult the Okanagan IT list of computer labs for availability of computers with RLB installed. It is strongly recommended that an instructor pre-book a lab when they plan to have students use RLB for an assessment, and alert IT, who will do their best to ensure the computers have the latest update of the software. Computer labs would also be open for students during regular business hours, subject to availability of pre-scheduled classes. RLB is installed in one computer lab on campus (ART 215) and will remain available. Further access is being considered for other labs. Please note that it is not recommend to use RLB on an iPad, due to technical difficulties and incompatibilities that can occur.

Accessing laptops with RLB:

Some students who are unable to install RLB on their devices have been borrowing laptops from the library. The library currently has only five laptops with RLB installed and cannot be guaranteed to be available when a student may need access. As of January 2025, the Library will no longer have RLB available on the loanable laptops.

Alternative Pedagogical Approaches:

If you would like to consider alternative pedagogical approaches or exam methodologies that include non-RLB options, please visit the Recommendations for Computer Exams document or alternatively, book a consultation with the CTL at ctl.ubco@ubc.ca
