TPS Touchpoint: Inclusive Teaching Practices

This month’s highlighted results from the Teaching Practices Survey (TPS) focus on inclusive teaching practices.

  • 83% of respondents feel that it is their responsibility to foster a respectful learning environment
  • 54% of respondents explicitly create opportunities for students to connect course content to social inequities or to the lived experiences of equity-denied groups
  • 87% of respondents use materials or provide examples that include diverse experiences, identities, or perspectives
  • 66% of participants would like asynchronous online resources or would attend an in-person or online workshop in the area of inclusive teaching practices

The Centre for Teaching and Learning offers consultation and programming to support instructors in integrating equitable and inclusive practices in course design and facilitation. The Inclusive Teaching @UBC website provides resources for faculty at the different stages of the teaching cycle from planning a course, setting classroom climate or embedding evidence-based practices throughout the term.

If you are new to the idea of inclusive teaching and/or would like to explore foundational terms, concepts and resources related to inclusive teaching in the UBC context, you are invited to enroll in an asynchronous, self-paced course, “Inclusive Teaching: What is it and why does it matter?”
