This month we invite you to join us for a Readability Challenge! The goal is to improve clarity for learners.
- Step 1: Select your instructional content. Examples include: a concept explanation, assignment instructions or a discussion prompt.
- Step 2: Assess the readability of the original version using a readability tool. Example tools: Hemingway App or Microsoft Word readability stats. In general, lower scores mean your text is easier to comprehend (for Grade level scores).
- Step 3: If applicable, incorporate feedback from the tool to revise your content. You can focus on:
- using clear, concise and plain language, and
- organizing steps or instructions in a logical, easy to follow order.
- Step 4: Assess the readability of the revised version and compare the results to the original.
Let us know what you learned from this challenge. Connect with our Educational Consultant for Inclusion, Electra Eleftheriadou (electra.eleftheriadou@ubc.ca). We would love to hear from you.
