Referring Your Students to Academic Integrity Supports

The Centre for Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce a new feature in our newsletter focusing on information and resources for faculty related to student academic integrity available internally within UBC or externally from the broader academic integrity community in Canada.

Academic integrity is a shared responsibility on our campus and faculty play an important role. At UBC, academic integrity is promoted through awareness, education, and support. Academic integrity supports are coordinated through the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, the Academic Integrity Implementation Group (AIIG) with representations from the Provost, UBC Okanagan Library, the AIM Program, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), and the Faculty Advisor on Academic Integrity.

The Academic Integrity Matters (AIM) Program is a referral program that serves as a supportive learning intervention before academic integrity issues are escalated. Recognizing that students need various and diverse resources to help them succeed in their studies, AIM provides students the option of 1-1 consultations. Faculty members, Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs), and staff can refer students who need writing and non-writing specific support in their course assignments. However, it is recommended that faculty consult with their Associate Dean or their academic misconduct committee (if any) to verify faculty- or department-specific procedures that should be addressed before a referral is officially made to AIM.
