As we approach the end of another academic term, I am reminded of the incredible teaching and learning community we have at UBC Okanagan, where so many faculty strive to create exceptional learning environments for our students. During this busy time, I am especially grateful for the hard work and dedication of faculty and staff as we prepare for the upcoming exam season. I know this time can be challenging for both faculty and students, and I want to encourage you to reach out to the CTL for advice and support to help you have a smooth (and hopefully stress-free) exam period. You can find helpful resources on our website or contact our staff directly for support.
Looking back on March, it has been a month full of learning and connection, with several CTL events taking place, including the Instructional Skills Workshop, Community of Practice for Innovative Teaching Techniques and Tools and our first Coffee and Decolonization event. Events like these highlight how valuable it is for us to come together as a community, to learn together and support one another in our teaching. If you have not attended before, we invite you to explore our upcoming events to find out for yourself!
There is much to look forward to this spring! Celebrate Learning Week (CLW) is fast approaching and will take place on May 5-9, 2025. Each year, CLW showcases teaching and learning at UBC through open lectures, poster sessions, panel discussions, workshops and more. This year, the theme is Collective Growth: Cultivating Meaningful Change. I encourage you to save the date to attend or consider submitting a proposal to share your work. The proposal deadline is March 31, 2025. This event is an excellent opportunity to share innovative practices, connect with colleagues across campuses and celebrate the achievements of the UBC academic community.
Wishing you a strong finish to the academic term, and moments of reflection and connection in the months ahead.
Warm regards,
Jackie Denison,
Associate Provost, Teaching and Learning
