Accessibility Tip – August 2024

This month we want to bring to your attention the updated UDL Guidelines (version 3.0)! The UDL Guidelines are a tool used in the implementation of Universal Design for Learning, a framework to proactively enhance access and participation to meaningful learning for as many people as possible.

This iteration of the guidelines has a specific focus on equity. The UDL Guidelines were expanded to more fully:

  • Emphasize identity as part of variability, including the “who” along with the “why” (Multiple Means of Engagement), the “what” (Multiple Means of Representation), and the “how” (Multiple Means of Action and Expression)
  • Acknowledge individual, institutional, and systemic biases as barriers to learning without limits
  • Emphasize the value of interdependence and collective learning
  • Shift from teacher-centered to learner-centered language

What do you think of these updates? What new or updated guideline are you looking forward to implementing in your courses next year? We would love to hear from you!
